FMCG News has published the latest Nielsen report on retail performance in the UK for January.

The figures are encouraging for 2 reasons:

1/ They see food inflation slowing
2/ They see value growth despite a slight decrease in unit sales, indicating higher unit item costs and hopefully higher margins.

Nielsen also noted that the use of vouchers, coupons and fuel discounts was key in gaining footfall and repeat business, underlining the need for strong and focused promotional activity.
