UpClear’s RGM Summit Helps FMCG Leaders Shape Approach and Create Strategies to Win

On Wednesday 7th May, RGM operators and leaders spent a productive afternoon at Etc. Venues County Hall, on the South Bank in London, listening to industry experts and participating in formal roundtable and informal peer-to-peer discussions.

We were privileged to hear from Ananda Roy – Circana, Flavio Mologni – Bain & Company, Scott McBeath & Marco Rossi – Total Negotiation Group, Julien Guyonnet – TPoPartners, Adam Paton – Brown-Forman, John Fernando – Danone and Dave Jackson – Ferrero.

The afternoon was well-attended by global and national household names across FMCG (Brown-Forman, Compleat Foods, Coty, Danone, Ferrero, Hain Celestial, Hasbro, Hovis, Kimblery Clark, KP Snacks, Muller, Perfetti Van Melle, Pladis, Tata, Twinnings, Unilever, Warbutons, William Grant & Sons).  Their feedback has been unanimously positive, the presentations were all well-received, and an over-riding theme was of an open, honest and constructive afternoon sharing of learnings, ideas and insights that they were going to take back to their businesses.

Key Takeaways

  • The RGM function and capability is needed more than ever over the short to medium term as FMCG firms aim to successfully navigate turbulent macro and external factors
  • Having the right data, processes, systems and aligned ways of working are all crucial in enabling success.
  • For organisations just starting out, having a clear aligned view on their end-destination, scope, change management and a sequential phased approach to building their capability are key.
  • Just as important is determining your outcome is planning the pace of change.  You must first learn to walk before you can run.
  • Also important is a single source of truth that enables collaboration, efficiency and better informed decision-making.
  • Lastly, a “win-win-win” triple win mindset is essential for sustainable success and for those who successfully execute RGM. Generating stronger commercial performances and partnerships is the prize.
