Creating Data Standards for Gross-to-Net RGM

ON-DEMAND VIDEO
Most TPM platforms are capable of far more than they're being used for. The gap between the plan at deployment and the day-to-day usage is a persistent issue in CPG commercial operations. In this session, UpClear's Kurt Kaiser addresses that gap directly: why retail sales and distributor depletion data so rarely make it into trade planning systems, what it costs when they don't, and what a more standardized approach to promotion data could unlock — both for individual organizations and across the industry.

Key Insights:

  • Only 20% of brands conduct post-event analysis within 30 days of an event — and less than half of those use their trade platform to do it
  • Retail sales and distributor depletion data are where integration most commonly breaks down; the result is post-event analysis that never happens, or happens in Excel
  • When the Excel file is more trusted than the system, the platform has been reduced from a business management tool to a checkbook — and the cost of that gap compounds over time
  • Promotion data standards don't yet exist at an industry level the way they do for products (GS1) or customers (TD Links) — and the absence of that common language is a barrier to AI delivering reliable outputs
  • Start with a thorough audit: what data do you use in your planning and execution process, what do you trust, and where are the gaps?

"We recommend that you audit your data... What data do you use in your customer planning and execution process? What do you trust? What don't you trust? Where are there gaps? And then set a utilization target for each type of data that you have."
